Ticket sales cover 22% of what it costs to put an orchestra on stage. Grants cover 20%. You cover the rest.

With a mission of building community through music, Symphony Tacoma brings live orchestral music to this region — in the concert hall, in classrooms, and in places people don’t expect to find an orchestra. Our education programs alone reach more than 7,000 people a year, from age two to adult.

That leaves 58% of the budget, and it comes from generous companies and individuals. We’re grateful for every donor, at every amount — those gifts fund new and relevant programming, music education for kids across Pierce County, and community programs that put live music in front of people who’d otherwise never hear it.

Give as an individual

Every one of these supports the same thing: live orchestral music in this community. Pick whichever fits how you like to give.

Most popular

The Annual Fund

The Annual Fund supports every area of the Symphony — the concert series, education programming, and community partnerships. Your gift is 100% tax-deductible and goes to the operating costs ticket sales don’t cover.

Gifts arrive here anywhere from $1 to $10,000 and up, and every one of them helps. There’s no minimum and no gift too small to matter.

Spread it out

Give monthly

A recurring monthly gift lets you give at a level that might be out of reach all at once — $20 a month rather than $240 in December. Set it once and it takes care of itself.

$1,000 – $2,500

Sponsor a musician

Put your support behind one of the people actually making the music. Sponsorship is $2,500 for a principal musician or $1,000 for a section musician, and it includes recognition in our concert programs and an introduction to the musician you’re supporting.

You can pledge now and pay later, or in installments. Meet the orchestra to see who plays what.

Donor-advised funds

Give through your DAF

If you have a donor-advised fund, recommending a grant to Symphony Tacoma takes a few minutes through your fund’s portal. You’ll need our legal name and EIN, both below. Let us know a grant is coming and we’ll make sure it’s credited to you properly — DAF grants often arrive without donor details attached.

Free money

Does your employer match?

Many companies match employee charitable gifts, often dollar for dollar — which doubles your gift at no additional cost to you. It usually takes one form through your HR or giving portal, and they’ll ask for our EIN, which is below.

Stock & retirement accounts

Give from your assets

Gifts of appreciated stock let you give the full value without paying capital gains on it. Get in touch and we’ll send transfer instructions.

And if you’re 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution — sometimes called an IRA Charitable Rollover — lets you give directly from your IRA, which for many people is the most tax-efficient route there is. You can make a gift, request a tax acknowledgment for one already made, or just read up on how it works.

Give as a business

Two ways to put your name in front of an engaged local audience while keeping live music in Tacoma.

Sponsorship

Sponsor a concert

You’ll be recognized as concert sponsor in the playbill, on our website, in the hall, and in promotional materials — your name and logo in front of our audiences. We also reserve a block of VIP tickets for you to share with customers, clients, or staff.

If the published levels don’t fit what you have in mind, we’re always happy to talk and tailor something.

Advertising

Advertise in the season program

Our season program is printed in October and handed to every patron at every concert. Across eight concerts, your message reaches 10,000+ community-minded arts audiences — and because so many of them are season subscribers, your ad earns repeat impressions all season long.

Ad space can be reserved and paid for online. If you’d rather talk it through first, or want a hand with artwork, email Jennifer Cargile.

Give for the long term

Two ways to make a gift that outlasts a single season.

Endowment

The Symphony Tacoma Endowment

The Endowment holds restricted and unrestricted gifts, invested and monitored according to policies approved by the Board of Trustees. Named endowments — in memory of an individual or family — begin at $25,000 and can be designated to fund an orchestra chair, a program, or a specific activity.

Ways to give that aren’t money

Volunteer — ushers, event help, office support, and more.

Donate your tickets back — if you can’t use a ticket, releasing it lets someone else fill the seat and makes the value a deductible gift.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we’ll walk you through the options — including ones that aren’t on this page. There’s no gift too small to be worth a conversation.
