The chorus
Gifted amateurs, music teachers, and professionals — in one room, every week
Symphony Tacoma Voices is a genuinely mixed chorus. Some members sing for a living, some teach it, and many simply love it enough to give an evening a week to it. What they share is the standard they hold each other to.
The Voices rehearse weekly through the season, preparing collaborations with Symphony Tacoma that include the annual performance of Handel's Messiah. They also present a standalone concert each year exploring a wider range of choral repertoire.

Conductor
Dr. Geoffrey Boers
Dr. Boers has conducted Symphony Tacoma Voices since 2002. He is also the Ruth Sutton Waters Endowed Professor of Music at the University of Washington, where he leads a choral studies program of three faculty, fourteen in-residence graduate conductors, and seven choirs. He conducts the UW Chamber Singers, who collaborate with local and nationally renowned artists.
He travels widely for conducting and teaching engagements, and wrote a groundbreaking literacy rubric now being adopted by ACDA and NAfME — the national choral and music education organizations in the United States — as well as in Canada, where it will appear in a new French edition.
Collaborative Artist
Amy Elizabeth Boers
Amy Boers is known for her work as a pianist, accompanist, singer, and conductor — a range that gives her unusual insight as a collaborative artist. She was named Principal Pianist for Symphony Tacoma in 2018 and has worked with the Voices for many years. She also coaches and performs with both vocalists and instrumentalists at Pacific Lutheran University.
